The American Salvage Association is a trade association with the purpose of improving salvage response generally and as with every trade organization the discussion and resolution of issues common to the membership. In a sense this is not any different than the International Group of P&I Clubs with each member competing against others while having a common interest. The intention of the ASA is directed toward a reasonable structure within the maritime community.

Issues of safety, insurance, increased training, adequate salvage assets, and responder immunity are high on the ASA agenda. The ASA and its members are committed to working together in a co-operative manner.

ASA salvors will ensure that every casualty is attended by a professional who has the physical assets, experienced labor, financial strength, insurability and a record of past performance that will guarantee to the North American public and the principals involved that the very best effort is being made to protect the environment and assure success in the shortest possible time.
